Opel is actively developing its next electric sporty city car, the upcoming Corsa GSE, currently undergoing intensive testing on one of the most challenging circuits in the world.

The Return of Sportiness at Opel in Electric Form

Within Opel, the rise of electric vehicles is not limited to everyday models. The brand also aims to reaffirm its sporty heritage, now translated into the battery era. Integrated into the Stellantis group, Opel benefits from a shared technical platform that paves the way for a new generation of small electric sports cars.

The future Opel Corsa in its GSE variant is fully aligned with this strategy. This high-performance version is expected to deliver around 280 horsepower, paired with a limited-slip differential on the front axle, a feature designed to maximize traction and efficiency in dynamic driving. This configuration is already seen in the Mokka GSE.

This electric powertrain is shared with other models in the group, confirming a technical synergy already visible in the upcoming sporty versions of the Peugeot e-208 and the Lancia Ypsilon HF.

Extensive Testing on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring

To validate its dynamic behavior, Opel has chosen the Nürburgring Nordschleife as its testing ground. This legendary circuit, over 20 kilometers long, is considered one of the most comprehensive testing grounds for assessing chassis balance, due to its terrain, fast sequences, and particularly demanding corners.

These sessions allow engineers to refine agility, steering precision, and thermal management of the electric system, essential parameters for a modern sporty city car.

The Corsa GSE is expected to be equipped with a battery of around 54 kWh. Depending on the settings and chosen tires, the estimated range could exceed 350 km in the WLTP cycle. This figure remains consistent with its positioning, especially since the expected performance clearly prioritizes dynamic efficiency.

The choice of tires will play a crucial role: between circuit-oriented compounds and tires more focused on efficiency, the differences in range could be significant.

A Presentation Expected in Paris

The production version of the Opel Corsa GSE is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. It will likely mark the end of the current generation, as the segment of sporty electric city cars becomes increasingly competitive.

Facing references like the Alpine A290 or certain dynamic variants from MINI, Opel is betting on a more radical offering within the Stellantis galaxy, with a level of power and traction system that could make it one of the most high-performing propositions in its category.
