In 2026, the midsize sedan segment remains competitive, and the classic Toyota Camry continues to hold strong positions in the market due to its combination of space, fuel efficiency, and reliability. Sales growth in the first quarter confirms stable interest in the model; however, buyers are increasingly considering alternatives that offer similar or even broader capabilities.

Hybrid Competitors Focused on Efficiency
One of the most notable competitors is the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, which in its "economical" version demonstrates fuel consumption at around 4.6 L/100 km. By this measure, it is nearly on par with the Camry, and in some aspects, it even wins thanks to a more modern and well-designed interior. At the same time, the lack of all-wheel drive and a stiffer suspension may affect comfort on poor roads.
Among the constant competitors is also the Honda Accord Hybrid, which consumes approximately 4.9 L/100 km in mixed mode. Its hybrid system operates smoothly, and the driving experience is close to that of a traditional automatic. A strong point of the model is its build quality, although it is only available with front-wheel drive.
For those who find the Camry too large, a more compact alternative is the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. It is even more fuel-efficient—around 4.4 L/100 km—which makes it attractive for urban use.
Affordable Gasoline Alternatives
In the segment of classic gasoline sedans, the Kia K5 offers a different approach. There are no hybrid technologies here, but there are powerful engines: from 190 hp in the base versions to 290 hp in the sporty GT modification. The car can be equipped with safety systems and even all-wheel drive, but fuel consumption is higher—around 7.8 L/100 km.
Another option is the Kia K4, focused on practicality and space. Despite being a more compact class, its body shape provides a comfortable interior, although fuel consumption is about 7.1 L/100 km.
Among economical models, the Toyota Prius stands out with a consumption of around 4.7 L/100 km, as well as the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, which remains an internal competitor to the Camry: 4.7–4.9 L/100 km depending on the configuration. It is less powerful and compact but is perfect for city driving and budget savings.
Sporty Alternatives
For drivers seeking more excitement behind the wheel, an alternative could be the Volkswagen Jetta GLI. Its 2.0-liter turbo engine with 228 hp, sporty suspension, and manual transmission make the car performance-oriented. Fuel consumption is around 8.1 L/100 km.
An even more aggressive character is found in the Subaru WRX with 271 hp and all-wheel drive. This is a true sports sedan; however, its fuel consumption is significantly higher—around 10.7 L/100 km.
In the premium segment, an interesting alternative is the Acura Integra. It offers around 200 hp, modern equipment, and a practical liftback body, adding versatility.
Practical and Versatile Solutions
Among the tested options, the Nissan Altima should be mentioned, which combines comfort and affordability. The model can also offer an all-wheel drive system, and fuel consumption is approximately 7.8 L/100 km.
Separately, the direction of electric vehicles is worth noting. The Toyota bZ demonstrates a range of up to 379 km on a single charge, which is sufficient for daily trips in the city and suburbs without using fuel.
