The DS brand is making a notable return to the automotive scene with the introduction of its latest model, the DS Numéro 7. This stylish SUV aims to cater to both elegance and functionality, embodying the French flair for sophistication while addressing contemporary needs.

The new DS Numéro 7 ÉLYSÉE, which serves as the official vehicle for the French president, has been designed with a touch of luxury and security. This model is notably longer than its predecessor, measuring 25 centimeters more, and features armored protection along with blue and red lights, making it a standout choice for dignitaries.

After a four-year hiatus, DS is re-entering the market with a focus on SUVs, which now account for half of the brand's sales. The Numéro 7 is a testament to this shift, boasting a striking design that balances bold lines and understated elegance. During initial test drives in the French countryside, the vehicle demonstrated a solid performance, showcasing its handling capabilities without compromising on comfort. Inside, the cabin offers an inviting atmosphere, complete with features like massage seats and neck warmers.

However, some aspects of the interior design may leave room for improvement, such as the thin steering wheel and the somewhat lackluster feedback from the controls. The large glass roof, while visually appealing, lacks functionality due to the absence of a sunshade, allowing excessive heat to enter the cabin. Additionally, the door handles, resembling pretzels, may not be the most practical design choice. While the front seats provide ample comfort, the rear seating suffers from limited thigh support due to the battery placement.

In its development phase, the DS Numéro 7 was initially planned as an all-electric vehicle. However, in response to market realities, a hybrid gasoline option has been introduced, albeit somewhat belatedly. This hybrid variant features a small 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine producing 145 horsepower, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, which some may find underwhelming.

For those opting for electric power, the Numéro 7 offers three configurations: 230, 245, and 350 horsepower, with the latter featuring all-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive. The vehicle is equipped with battery options of 74 or 97 kWh, providing a range of 540 to 740 kilometers. Charging capabilities include 11 or 22 kW, with rapid charging at 160 kW, which is considered average. The time taken to charge from 20% to 80% is estimated to be between 27 to 31 minutes, allowing for a quick break, though the large charging port may seem excessive.

As a brand, DS has always embraced its imperfections and uniqueness, and the Numéro 7 continues this tradition in a charming manner. It is set to launch in October, with the hybrid starting at €47,700, while electric versions range from €56,300 to €78,500.
