Kia Seltos Hits German Roads: A Comprehensive Review

Kia's latest offering, the Seltos, is making its debut in Germany, positioning itself as a significant player in the compact SUV segment. This model has already achieved remarkable success globally, becoming the second-best-selling vehicle for the brand. The Seltos aims to bridge the gap between the Crossover Xceed and the larger Sportage, which is eleven centimeters longer. Unlike the EV 5, which is Kia's foray into electric vehicles, the Seltos is strictly a combustion engine model, with a full hybrid version expected to launch later this year.

The engine lineup for the Seltos primarily features gasoline and hybrid options. The hybrid variant will be available starting in the fourth quarter, offering either 154 or 178 horsepower, paired with a battery just under 1.5 kWh. This version will also introduce a partial electric all-wheel-drive system and the capability to charge external devices.

In contrast, the gasoline model lacks this functionality but does offer a traditional all-wheel-drive option. Additionally, Kia maintains the option for drivers to engage with a manual transmission for a more hands-on experience.

The Seltos comes equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 180 horsepower. While this powertrain may not be the most exhilarating, it provides a reliable driving experience. Like many other Kia models with this engine, the Seltos exhibits a slight hesitation during acceleration, and its seven-speed dual-clutch transmission prioritizes efficiency over sporty performance.

For those who prefer a more relaxed driving style, the Seltos offers a comfortable ride, with a well-tuned suspension that absorbs bumps effectively. The seats are designed for comfort, providing ample space for passengers and cargo alike. With a flat loading floor, the trunk offers between 536 and 1500 liters of storage capacity, making it suitable for transporting groceries or larger items.

The latest infotainment system from Kia impresses with its user-friendly interface, seamless wireless smartphone integration, over-the-air updates, and streaming capabilities. Notably, the more intrusive driver assistance features can be easily muted directly from the steering wheel. The Seltos is available in a new Tan Beige color, starting at around €34,000.
