This New BYD Was Not Designed for China, But Directly for Europe

The Chinese manufacturer BYD is accelerating its European strategy and now intends to offer models specifically designed to meet the expectations of the Old Continent's market. With the new BYD Dolphin G DM-i, the brand adopts an unprecedented approach: it is no longer just about adapting a car intended for China, but rather developing a model conceived from the outset for European drivers.

BYD Changes Strategy to Attract Europe

This new direction illustrates BYD's growing ambitions in Europe. The manufacturer is now seeking to better meet local expectations in terms of format, design, and usage, proving that the European market is becoming a major strategic axis for the brand.

The BYD Dolphin G DM-i fits into the segment of versatile city cars with dimensions adapted to European standards. Measuring 4.16 meters in length and 1.82 meters in width, it is positioned almost at the level of a Renault Clio, still considered an essential reference in the segment.

In terms of style, BYD opts for sobriety. The Chinese compact adopts relatively clean lines with a fluid silhouette, smooth surfaces, and flush door handles. The slim headlights also contribute to this desire for discretion, far from the sometimes very demonstrative designs offered by certain Asian manufacturers.

But the true originality of this Dolphin G DM-i lies under the hood. The model is expected to become one of the first plug-in hybrid city cars marketed on a large scale in the European market.

A Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain Designed for Long Journeys

While BYD has made a name for itself with its electric cars, the manufacturer is also betting heavily on plug-in hybrids to accelerate its establishment in Europe. This technology allows the brand to avoid the surcharges applied to electric vehicles manufactured in China.

The Dolphin G DM-i will rely on BYD's Super Hybrid technology. The manufacturer remains discreet about the detailed characteristics of its powertrain but already announces a total range that can reach 1,000 kilometers.

Complete technical information is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. However, several elements suggest that this city car could feature a large capacity battery, close to the 18 kWh already used in some of the brand's hybrid models. The internal combustion engine is expected to be a 1.5-liter gasoline block paired with an electric motor, for a combined power that could approach 200 horsepower.

BYD now seems ready to significantly accelerate the European launch of this new model. The first deliveries of the Dolphin G DM-i are expected before the end of summer.
