Audi Q7: The Ringed Brand Prepares a New Generation of the Large SUV

Audi is preparing to renew one of its most strategic models with the upcoming arrival of a third generation of the Audi Q7. A true pillar of the lineup since its launch in 2005, this large premium SUV is entering a new phase in its history, nearly twenty years after contributing to the popularization of high-end family vehicles.

A Foundational Model of the Large Premium SUV Segment

Upon its market debut, the Q7 established itself as a direct response to the rise of luxury SUVs, alongside benchmarks such as the Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg, Mercedes-Benz ML, and BMW X5. Its positioning was notably based on its seven-seat configuration, making it one of the few models in this segment to offer true family versatility.

The German SUV also benefited from particularly high-performing diesel engines for the time, leveraging Audi's expertise in endurance and engine technologies. This combination of spaciousness, comfort, and efficiency allowed it to firmly establish itself in the premium automotive landscape.

An Extended Current Generation with Successive Evolutions

The current iteration of the Q7, introduced in 2015, has been sustained over time thanks to two major facelifts, in 2019 and then in 2024. These updates have modernized its design and gradually integrated electrification solutions, notably with the arrival of plug-in hybrid versions. This evolution was necessary to meet new environmental standards and extend the commercial lifespan of the model.

For this new generation, Audi is not expected to make an immediate shift to a 100% electric powertrain. The future Q7 is likely to retain thermal and hybrid options, with a differentiated strategy depending on the markets. Europe is expected to favor electrified variants, while gasoline engines will continue to be offered in North America, where large thermal SUVs remain highly attractive.

A Future Q9 to Broaden the Top of the Range

In parallel with this renewal, the ringed brand is also working on an even larger model: the Audi Q9. Positioned above the Q7, this future SUV could exceed 5.20 meters and strengthen Audi's presence in the very large premium SUV segment. It would share some of its technologies and interior architecture with the Q7, in a logic of industrial rationalization and range coherence.
