Bertone Revives 1969 Concept with the Exclusive 'Nero Aureo': 475 HP V6 and Limited to 25 Units

Bertone has unveiled its latest creation, the Nero Aureo, a modern interpretation of its iconic roadster, the Runabout, first showcased at the Ultimate Supercar show in Paris just months ago. This new version maintains the technical specifications of its predecessor while enhancing the customization options available to its 25 future owners. More than a mere color combination, Bertone describes this edition as a true study in style, reflecting the design philosophy of the brand's Centro Stile.

A More Elegant Runabout

The Bertone Runabout stands out in today’s automotive landscape. Drawing inspiration from the 1969 Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept designed by Marcello Gandini, it features a distinctive wedge shape, retractable headlights, a rear mid-engine layout, and a six-speed manual transmission, with only 25 units being produced.

With the introduction of the Nero Aureo, the design takes on an even bolder character. The body showcases a deep hue that shifts between black and dark green, accentuating the car's taut volumes. Bertone has added golden champagne accents along the body line, wheels, and various body components, highlighting the unique edges of Gandini’s silhouette.

A Warmer Interior

Inside, the atmosphere also evolves. While the exterior opts for a more understated approach, the cabin utilizes warm materials. A deep green covers the upper dashboard, complemented by cognac leather on the seats and center console. Ivory inserts and champagne finishes complete the luxurious feel.

This contrast works particularly well with the exposed carbon fiber elements, serving as a reminder that this vehicle remains a true sports car despite its luxury treatment. Similar to other Runabout models, Bertone retains a deliberately analog approach, featuring a prominently displayed manual gearbox, a sleekly designed steering wheel, and an interior where handcrafted leather plays a central role.

The Nero Aureo is not merely a special edition; it represents a configuration offered by the Bertone Centro Stile, which assists each of the 25 buyers in personalizing their vehicle. Each Runabout is crafted almost entirely to order, ensuring that no two will be identical. This new offering exemplifies this philosophy: starting from a common technical foundation—a Lotus-derived aluminum chassis paired with a supercharged 475 hp Toyota V6 and a manual gearbox—while providing each client with a distinct visual identity.

With a starting price of €390,000 excluding taxes, along with numerous customization options, the Bertone Runabout is poised to become a collector's item even before the first deliveries take place.
