Government Prepares to Strengthen Responsibility for Systematic Traffic Violations
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine plans to enhance accountability for drivers who regularly violate traffic rules.

Following a fatal traffic accident in Kyiv, the government is preparing stricter sanctions for habitual traffic offenders. Changes will also affect the system for recording violations.
This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, after a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Igor Klymenko.
Attention to Drivers Who Systematically Violate Traffic Rules
According to the head of the government, a package of solutions aimed at reducing accident rates and improving discipline on the roads is currently being developed.
Among the proposed measures is the strengthening of responsibility for systematic traffic violations, primarily for speeding. The government is also considering the introduction of stricter penalties for drivers who regularly ignore established limits.
A separate focus will be the modernization of both automatic and non-automatic violation recording systems. Additionally, there are plans to legally regulate the use of light personal electric transport, particularly electric scooters and other similar means of transportation.
The Catalyst Was a High-Profile Accident
The discussion of possible changes intensified after a fatal traffic accident on Chokolivskyi Boulevard in Kyiv. A Mercedes-Benz vehicle at high speed crashed into an underground pedestrian crossing where people were present. As a result of the accident, four people died, and three others were injured.
The police reported that the 49-year-old driver had previously been repeatedly held accountable for traffic violations. The vehicle had recorded 39 violations, mostly related to speeding.
The Decision Promised to Be Discussed with the Public
Yulia Svyrydenko noted that the final proposals will be formed taking into account public opinion and expert recommendations.
Meanwhile, on June 8, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv chose a measure of restraint for the suspect in the form of detention for 60 days without the right to bail.
