How Power from the Sahara Will Reach Germany
The Sahara's power is set to flow into Germany's grid by the mid-2020s, costing under ten cents per kilowatt-hour, thanks to a 5,000 km underwater cable.

A groundbreaking initiative aims to deliver electricity from the Sahara Desert to Germany by the middle of the next decade. This ambitious project promises to provide power at a cost of less than ten cents per kilowatt-hour, including transportation, ensuring a reliable supply around the clock.
At the heart of this vision is a nearly 5,000-kilometer underwater cable, which would become the longest of its kind in the world. This cable will connect solar and wind power plants located in the Moroccan Sahara directly to the German power grid.
The project, named "Sila Atlantik," has garnered attention from government officials in both countries and has sparked interest from major German energy companies, including Eon and Uniper.
As the world shifts towards renewable energy sources, the successful implementation of this project could significantly contribute to Germany's energy goals and sustainability efforts.
