Finally, several years after the presentation of the concept, Volkswagen unveils the final version of the ID. Polo, the next-generation electric city car. A vehicle that seems well thought out, efficient, and reasonably priced. Here’s what you need to know about the new ID. Polo. A Volkswagen that looks like a Volkswagen…

A Volkswagen That Looks Like a Volkswagen

In the past, the stylistic choices of Volkswagen's electric vehicle lineup have been criticized. The models didn't really resemble Volkswagens. That time is over: with the new ID. Polo, the manufacturer has understood that an electric Volkswagen should look like a Volkswagen.

The profile of the ID. Polo features a typically Volkswagen style, particularly with the iconic C-pillars found on the Polo and Golf. But for the rest, Volkswagen is playing it safe: this ID. Polo needs to sell, it must not divide opinions. The design is therefore very consensual, with a modern front light signature. The logo is backlit, just like on the refreshed Golf 8.

At the rear, there is a light strip incorporating the Volkswagen logo as well as the ID. Polo inscription. We asked Volkswagen to make a Volkswagen, and we got a Volkswagen: a sober car, with a serious style that time will not affect. In terms of dimensions, it is larger than a Renault 5, as the small German car measures 4.05 m.

A Similarly Sober Interior

Inside, Volkswagen has revised its approach. No haptic touch controls on the steering wheel, but more practical physical controls. The 10.25-inch instrument cluster offers customizable displays, including a vintage background inspired by the first Polo. The infotainment system features a 13-inch screen and operates on Android Automotive. Physical buttons on the center console allow quick access to essential functions.

The rear seating space appears generous: the additional 12 cm compared to a Renault 5 is beneficial here. The trunk is also spacious, offering 451 liters, which is a benchmark in this city car category.

A Great Range

In the entry-level version, the Volkswagen ID. Polo comes with a 37 kWh LFP battery paired with a motor producing 116 or 135 horsepower, with a claimed range of 329 km WLTP. This version supports charging at 90 kW, allowing for a 10 to 80% charge in 27 minutes.

A 52 kWh NMC battery is also available: this is the one that opens the orders for the Volkswagen ID. Polo. It is paired with a 210-horsepower motor for a range of 455 km, making it the best range for an electric city car currently. This version supports charging at 105 kW, allowing for a 10 to 80% charge in 24 minutes.

Regarding pricing, the Volkswagen ID. Polo starts at €24,995 before the ecological bonus and reaches around €35,000 with the larger battery.
