Today, they serve as multifunctional remote controls for the car, where manufacturers combine comfort, safety, and additional hidden features. However, a significant portion of drivers only utilize basic functions, often unaware of the extended options available on their key fobs.

Emergency Access Often Forgotten

In most modern cars equipped with keyless entry systems, a backup mechanical key is provided. It is hidden inside the key fob and is used in cases where the electronics fail.

To retrieve it, you usually need to press a small locking button or latch. After that, the metal blade extends from the fob. This key allows you to open the door even when the car's battery is dead or the fob's battery is depleted.

The keyhole is often masked with a decorative cover to maintain the door's appearance and protect the mechanism from dirt and moisture.

Remote Control of Windows and Comfort

Many cars support a hidden function for controlling windows from the key fob. This feature is particularly useful in hot weather when the interior heats up significantly under the sun.

Usually, it is enough to hold the unlock button for a few seconds, and the windows will automatically lower. This allows for quick ventilation of the cabin even before the driver gets into the car.

In some models, the sunroof may also open, or a partial ventilation mode may be activated. Similarly, holding the lock button closes all windows and the sunroof simultaneously. In some vehicles, these functions can be activated through the multimedia system settings.

The automatic folding of mirrors when locking the car is also a common feature, which is convenient in tight parking spaces.

Finding Your Car and Additional Security

In large parking lots, finding your car can sometimes be challenging. To assist with this, some manufacturers add a special search button to the key fob.

When activated, the car emits a sound or flashes its headlights, allowing you to quickly locate it among other vehicles.

Particular attention is also paid to security. Modern keys may include features to prevent signal interception. For example, double-pressing the lock button sometimes disables the keyless entry system to prevent signal reading by unauthorized devices.

In newer cars, such parameters are often adjustable through the multimedia system screen, allowing the driver to control the level of protection themselves.
