Bugatti has once again raised the bar for automotive exclusivity with the introduction of the Destrier, a bespoke one-off model based on the technical framework of the Bolide. This unique vehicle merges the extreme performance of the French hypercar with a level of craftsmanship and sophistication that leans more towards the world of art collecting than that of conventional high-performance automobiles.
The name "Destrier" evokes the powerful warhorses of the medieval era, hinting at a car with a striking presence. Compared to the Bolide, the Destrier is even lower and sleeker, standing at just one meter tall. It features massive 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear, while its body is adorned with a special Sapphire Celeste hue.
A Tribute to Bugatti’s Heritage
The design of the Destrier retains several of the brand's most recognizable elements, reinterpreting them in a more extreme fashion. The iconic horseshoe grille has been enlarged, and the rear wing has been seamlessly integrated into the bodywork, offering a more understated approach than that of the Bolide. Additionally, a plaque etched on the windshield pays homage to two legendary Bugatti models: the Type 57G and the Type 57SC Atlantic.
An Interior Like No Other
Inside, the Destrier distinguishes itself significantly from the Bolide. While the latter was designed with a radical focus on track performance, the one-off model presents a much more refined and welcoming environment.
The cabin features a blend of brown leather and nubuck, complemented by 3D knitted fabrics woven with copper threads and metallic accents. This choice transforms the interior into a bespoke sanctuary, aligning with the vision of creating not just a hypercar, but a unique piece destined for a collector.
The Heart of the Beast
Beneath its striking exterior, the Destrier retains the formidable heart of the Bolide. At its core is the monumental 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine, capable of producing an astonishing 1,600 horsepower. Thus, the technical foundation remains that of one of the most extreme Bugattis ever made, while the Destrier project introduces a more exclusive and refined interpretation without compromising on performance.
The Price of Exclusivity
One detail that remains undisclosed is the price of the Destrier. Bugatti has yet to reveal this figure, but the Bolide had a collector's price tag of around 4 million euros, excluding taxes, with all 40 units already produced. Given that the Destrier is a one-off with an even higher level of customization, its value could be significantly greater. For now, however, this remains a mystery.
More than just a derivative of the Bolide, the Destrier signifies a further evolution in the transformation of hypercars into works of art on four wheels, where exclusivity, history, and performance coexist within the same project.
