Eccentrica Unveils the V12 Roadster: A Modern Take on the Lamborghini Diablo

The Eccentrica V12 Roadster takes the classic Lamborghini Diablo and transforms it into a roofless marvel, enhancing its chassis, aerodynamics, and mechanics while preserving the original analog character of the supercar. This unique restomod, which debuted at the Monterey Car Week, will see a limited production run of just 19 units.

This project is rooted in the iconic Italian supercar from the 1990s, but the modifications extend far beyond mere aesthetic updates. The bodywork has been redefined using carbon fiber, and the structure has received specific reinforcements. The naturally aspirated V12 engine, with a capacity of 5.7 liters, now delivers 550 horsepower.

A Deep Transformation with Over 3,500 New Components

While the Eccentrica V12 Roadster retains its connection to the Lamborghini Diablo, the changes made are extensive. The original steel structure from the 1990s has been evolved with the addition of carbon fiber reinforcements. This upgrade is crucial, especially given the removal of the roof, as torsional rigidity becomes a central aspect of the design for a roadster, where the upper body no longer contributes to structural resistance as it does in a coupe.

Collaborating with Podium Advanced Engineering, the project has resulted in the creation of 3,500 specific components. The suspension has also been revised, maintaining a double wishbone layout, with the arms machined from solid material.

Additionally, the setup features semi-active dampers, while the steering retains a hydraulic rack-and-pinion configuration. Significant aerodynamic work has also been undertaken, achieving a drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.31 through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Airflow is managed starting from the front splitter and directed towards the rear diffuser, aimed at minimizing vortices and improving high-speed handling.

The V12 Engine: Power and Performance

At the heart of this vehicle is the 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V12, featuring a displacement of 5,707 cm³ and a 60-degree bank angle. Eschewing downsizing and electrification, the engine maintains the configuration that made the Diablo famous, but has undergone several enhancements to boost performance.

With an updated ECU, improved thermal management, and optimized airflow, the engine now produces a maximum of 550 horsepower at 7,000 RPM, with torque reaching 600 Nm at 6,500 RPM. These figures are paired with a claimed curb weight of 1,540 kg.

This results in a power-to-weight ratio of 2.91 kg/hp, allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while achieving a top speed of 335 km/h. The Eccentrica V12 Roadster is also capable of lateral accelerations of up to 1.2 g, with performance managed by Pirelli Trofeo R tires, featuring generous dimensions of 255/30 R19 at the front and 325/30 R19 at the rear.

Manual Transmission and a Vintage Feel

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the Eccentrica V12 Roadster lies not in its top speed, but in its deliberate departure from modern supercar trends. In a market where many high-performance vehicles are increasingly adopting electrification, large displays, and sophisticated automatic transmissions, this restomod opts for a different path.

The V12 engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The gear lever operates within a traditional exposed metal gate, a hallmark of Italian sports cars from that era. A modern touch is the dedicated button for engaging reverse.

This philosophy continues inside the cabin, where Eccentrica has chosen to forgo standard digital monitors, instead focusing on tactile materials and controls. The interior features Connolly leather, Alcantara, and anodized aluminum, providing a classic yet refined experience.

With the roof removed, the experience is further enhanced. The V12 engine, located just behind the occupants, produces a distinctive sound, thanks to its firing order of 1-7-4-10-2-8-6-12-3-9-5-11, which can be enjoyed without the barrier of a roof overhead.

Exclusivity of the Eccentrica V12 Roadster

The Eccentrica V12 Roadster is not designed for mass production. Only 19 units will be made, each customizable to the specifications of its owner. This limited run adds to the exclusivity of the project.

The result is a unique interpretation of the restomod concept. It goes beyond simply increasing the power of a Lamborghini Diablo; the modifications encompass the structure, bodywork, suspension, aerodynamics, cooling, and interior, while retaining elements that are becoming increasingly rare.

With a naturally aspirated V12, a manual transmission with an exposed gate, and no screens in sight, the Eccentrica V12 Roadster makes a clear statement. With 550 horsepower, a top speed of 335 km/h, and only 19 units produced, this model pushes the legacy of the Lamborghini Diablo into an even more extreme direction, updating the mechanical and analog features that made the original unforgettable.
