Fiat Freemont Cross: A Blend of Style and Functionality

06Outdoor Aesthetic with Dominant Front Bumper and 19-Inch Wheels The Fiat Freemont has captivated a diverse customer base with its versatility and modern design, appealing even to those who traditionally favored other vehicle segments. In Italy, it has held the title of the best-selling seven-seater vehicle for the past three years. The newly launched Fiat Freemont Cross reinforces the series' promise of being "always the car you desire" with its powerful appearance and even more exclusive interior.

Combining the practicality of a family-friendly large MPV with the elegance of urban living, the Fiat Freemont Cross excels in its design. It offers seven seats that can be configured in 32 different combinations, 25 storage compartments within the cabin, and a cargo volume of up to 1.5 cubic meters, making it suitable for demanding tasks. The all-wheel-drive variant also provides off-road capabilities typical of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). The Fiat Freemont Cross will be available at German dealerships starting in September.

25 Powerful Look, Exclusive Interior The new Fiat Freemont Cross stands out significantly from its counterparts in the lineup with its robust design. The front view features a newly designed bumper with a platinum-chrome protective bar and black backgrounds for the main headlights. The black grille is framed in shiny black, while the narrow protective strips beneath the side sills, the roof rails, and the lower part of the rear bumper also sport a platinum-chrome finish. The rear lights feature a black background, and the vehicle comes standard with new black 19-inch alloy wheels in a five-spoke design.

The powerful and exclusive style continues inside, where new seating upholstery combines fabric and leather. Contrasting grey stitching is found on the middle armrest and door panels, adding color accents. The instrument panel, controls, and door trims are dominated by a technical-looking Liquid Graphite color, while the luxurious atmosphere is enhanced by a leather steering wheel and gear shift.

Engine Options Powering the Fiat Freemont Cross is a modern and efficient 2.0 16V Multijet turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, available in two power outputs. The engine can produce either 103 kW (140 hp) or 125 kW (170 hp) and can be paired with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. The 170 hp variant also offers an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, combined with a modern six-speed automatic transmission.

46 Features and Amenities A key focus of the Fiat Freemont Cross is its onboard infotainment system. Standard equipment includes a premium audio system and a navigation system, both controlled via an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The system features a DVD player and supports audio playback from an SD card. Additionally, the audio system is Bluetooth-enabled, allowing for convenient control of mobile devices. When reversing, the monitor displays the image from the rearview camera, while the Alpine sound system delivers 368 watts of power through six speakers and a subwoofer.

The Freemont Cross sets new standards in the crossover vehicle category with its exclusive features. The driver's seat is adjustable in ten ways, and the front passenger seat can completely fold down to reveal additional storage underneath. By folding down the second and third rows of seats, a nearly flat loading area is created, resulting in a cargo space of approximately 1.5 cubic meters. Integrated "Child Booster" seats in the second row allow for the transport of children weighing between 15 and 36 kg without needing portable child seats.

In total, the seats of the Fiat Freemont Cross offer 32 different configurations, and the 25 storage compartments provide a combined storage volume of roughly 140 liters—equivalent to the entire trunk space of some city vehicles. Practical solutions include covered storage compartments in the vehicle floor between the first and second rows, ideal for concealing valuable items like cameras or laptops.

Standard features also include six airbags, electrically heated and foldable exterior mirrors, a keyless entry and start system that allows the vehicle key to remain in the driver's pocket, illuminated cup holders, and steering wheel controls for the audio system and cruise control.

27 Active All-Wheel Drive (AWD) The Fiat Freemont Cross offers electronically controlled AWD in conjunction with the 170 hp variant of the turbo-diesel engine and the six-speed automatic transmission. This "on demand" system typically operates in front-wheel drive for fuel efficiency, but the electronics continuously monitor wheel traction. If slippage is detected at the front axle, power is automatically distributed to the rear axle to enhance driving safety on slippery surfaces or uneven terrain.

The AWD system also engages during high-speed cornering on dry roads. Between speeds of 40 and 100 km/h, the rear axle takes on part of the drive to ensure more neutral handling. The electronic control of the AWD system allows for more precise adjustments compared to a mechanical viscous coupling, as it also considers signals from the electronic stability program (ESP) and anti-slip regulation (ASR). This advanced AWD system gives the Fiat Freemont Cross a firm grip on the road.

Safety Features The Fiat Freemont, including the new Cross variant, boasts a high safety standard, evidenced by its five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. The safety equipment includes over 50 individual components. Standard features encompass front, side, and curtain airbags covering all three rows, an electronic stability program (ESP) with integrated traction control (ASR), active headrests, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

To further reduce pedestrian injury risk, the Fiat Freemont is equipped with an active hood that raises slightly in the event of a frontal collision involving a person, creating additional deformation space to lessen impact forces.

The Fiat Freemont also offers additional innovative technologies. Its electronic roll-over protection system (ERM) uses ESP sensors to detect potential roll-over situations, mitigating them by individually braking each wheel and controlling the throttle. The trailer stability control (TSC) helps to reduce trailer sway by monitoring the trailer's movements relative to the vehicle's intended direction and applying brake impulses as needed. This system enhances safety and comfort during highway towing.
