Expedition specialist Volker Lapp and his three-man team are gearing up to embark on their journey to the world's largest volcanic island. Their route will take them from Hirtshals in Denmark by road, followed by a ferry ride with a stop at the Faroe Islands, eventually reaching Seydisfjördur in eastern Iceland.
The ultimate destination is Reykjavik, but the path ahead presents nearly 1,000 kilometers of challenging tracks and inhospitable off-road terrain, featuring numerous water crossings. This journey poses a significant test for the compact all-terrain vehicle, known as the smallest 4×4 on the market.
From Aquatic to Hunting Panda – Over Three Decades of Adventure The Fiat Panda 4×4 is no stranger to challenges, with a rich history of adventure spanning more than 30 years. The crossing of Iceland is just the latest in a series of feats showcasing the vehicle's versatility. It has made headlines in events such as the notorious Dakar Rally, set records on the journey from Cape Town, South Africa, to London, and even reached the base camp of Mount Everest at over 5,000 meters. Additionally, it has traversed 20,000 kilometers on the long-distance route from Paris to Beijing.
In Germany, Volker Lapp has continually surprised enthusiasts with custom versions of the Fiat Panda. In 1992, he created an expedition-ready Panda, and the following year, he even taught it to swim. As an experienced hunter, Lapp also focused on developing the ideal vehicle for hunting, resulting in several variations of a hunting Panda. This innovation earned the title of "Hunting Car of the Year" in 1995. Moreover, Lapp famously defeated the US military vehicle Hummer in an off-road duel using the Fiat Panda 4×4. In 2013, he drove from his home in Wächtersbach, Germany, to the North Cape in Norway, all during the winter months.
