Introducing the Volkswagen ID. Cross: A New Era for Electric SUVs

Volkswagen is making significant strides in its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the ID. Cross, a compact SUV poised to take over the role of the T-Cross. Built on a dedicated platform, the ID. Cross promises multiple power levels and a driving range that may exceed 430 kilometers. Here’s what you need to know ahead of its market debut.

A New Electric SUV Following the ID. Polo

Just months after unveiling the ID. Polo, Volkswagen expands its electric vehicle family with the ID. Cross, a compact SUV developed on the MEB+ architecture. This new model is set to replace the T-Cross, which has been one of the German manufacturer’s best-selling vehicles in Europe.

The design of the ID. Cross aligns with the aesthetic language of the ID family. Its front end features a light strip connecting the headlights and an illuminated Volkswagen emblem. Elements such as lower body protection, black plastic wheel arch extensions, and roof rails enhance its SUV character, while the rear also sports a light strip.

Measuring 4.15 meters in length, 1.79 meters in width, and 1.58 meters in height, the ID. Cross fits well within the urban SUV category. Its wheelbase of 2.60 meters is expected to contribute to ample interior space.

Enhanced Interior Ergonomics

Inside, Volkswagen maintains a digital presentation with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster paired with a 12.9-inch central display. However, the company is revising some previous design choices.

Touch controls are gradually being replaced with physical buttons for key functions. The steering wheel features traditional buttons, while dedicated controls for climate and volume adjustments have been introduced, addressing feedback from many users.

Practicality is also a focus, with door handles integrated into the armrests and an interior that is touted as particularly spacious for its size category. The trunk offers 475 liters of storage, complemented by an additional 12 liters of space under the front hood. Certain trims will come equipped with a Harman Kardon audio system delivering 425 watts.

Impressive Range of Up to 436 Kilometers

The ID. Cross will be available with two battery capacities. The base model will feature a 37 kWh LFP battery, powering versions with 116 and 135 horsepower. A more powerful option, an NMC battery with a capacity of 52 kWh, will be available for the 211-horsepower variant.

Depending on the chosen configuration, the range is expected to reach up to 316 kilometers with the entry-level battery and up to 436 kilometers with the larger option, positioning the German SUV among the most competitive in its class.

Fast charging capabilities are also a highlight. The LFP battery supports a maximum charging power of 90 kW, while the NMC battery can handle 105 kW. Volkswagen estimates a charging time of 24 to 27 minutes to go from 10% to 80%, depending on the version.

Additionally, the SUV will feature V2L technology, allowing it to act as a power source for various electrical devices directly from the vehicle’s battery.

Competitive Pricing and Launch Timeline

Volkswagen is targeting a starting price of around 28,000 euros for the ID. Cross, which would make it one of the most affordable electric SUVs in its range. The first deliveries are projected for autumn 2026, with higher-end trims likely to be available first before the rollout of more budget-friendly options.
