Mike Tyson's Former Ferrari F50 Heads to Auction with Unique Bonus

Ferrari has long been synonymous with automotive excellence, and certain models have achieved legendary status, particularly when they have been owned by notable personalities. One such vehicle is the 1995 Ferrari F50 that once belonged to boxing champion Mike Tyson. This particular F50 will be auctioned without reserve by RM Sotheby’s during the Monterey sale on August 15, with estimates ranging from $7 million to $9 million. However, its storied past could drive the final bid even higher.
A Unique History
This F50 stands out as it is the 73rd unit produced out of a total of 349, and one of only 55 allocated to the U.S. market. Assembled in late 1995, it was delivered to Tyson in 1996, shortly after he regained his title as the undisputed heavyweight champion following his victory over Frank Bruno.
Despite his passion for exceptional cars, Tyson only kept the F50 for a few months before selling it. Over the years, it changed hands among several reputable American collectors, all committed to maintaining its authenticity. In 2008, Ferrari awarded it the coveted Ferrari Classiche Red Book, confirming the originality of its engine, transmission, chassis, and bodywork—an important certification that ensures the mechanical integrity of this model.
Formula 1 Heritage
Unveiled in 1995 to mark Ferrari's 50th anniversary, the F50 is one of the most radical road-legal cars ever produced by the Maranello manufacturer. Its carbon fiber monocoque, composite body made of carbon, Kevlar, and Nomex, and a 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V12 derived from the Ferrari F92A Formula 1 engine highlight its racing lineage. Producing 513 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque, this twelve-cylinder engine allows for a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h. Unlike its predecessor, the F40, the F50 features a removable roof, enabling drivers to enjoy the V12 in a barchetta configuration.
A Unique Auction Package
The auctioned F50 shows a mere 6,196 miles (approximately 10,000 kilometers), an impressive mileage for a car that is three decades old. Prior to the auction, Ferrari Newport Beach conducted extensive mechanical servicing to ensure optimal performance. The new owner will also receive the original hard-top, manuals, tools, a set of three Ferrari F50 luggage pieces, original documentation, several maintenance invoices, and a certificate of authenticity, along with a pair of signed Everlast boxing gloves from Mike Tyson—an unusual and personal touch from its first owner.
Auction Expectations
The estimated price of $7 to $9 million aligns with current market trends; however, past sales suggest it could fetch even more. In 2026, several F50s have sold for significantly higher amounts, including one that went for $12.21 million with just 252 miles on the odometer, and another that sold for $9.79 million in May. Recent RM Sotheby’s auctions have seen sales between $8.8 million and $9.25 million.
With its well-documented history, Ferrari Classiche certification, low mileage, and direct connection to one of boxing's greatest icons, this F50 is poised to be a highlight of the Monterey Car Week. The question remains whether Mike Tyson's name will help set a new auction record.
