Porsche Unveils Unique 911 Turbo S 'Land Down Under' to Celebrate 75 Years in Australia

Porsche is marking its 75th anniversary in Australia with a remarkable one-off creation known as the Land Down Under. This exclusive model, crafted by the Sonderwunsch division, transforms the 911 Turbo S into a tribute to the rich culture and stunning landscapes of Australia. The modifications go beyond mere aesthetic changes; every detail of the car has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the essence of the country, from its paintwork to its interior, including a unique message that appears when the vehicle is switched to a sportier driving mode.

The Most Powerful Base

At its core, the Land Down Under retains the performance of one of Porsche's most extreme models. The 911 Turbo S features a hybrid T-Hybrid system paired with a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged boxer six-cylinder engine, delivering a total output of 711 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. The performance metrics are supercar-worthy, with a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 322 km/h. However, the mechanical prowess takes a backseat to the extensive craftsmanship evident in its bodywork.

A Body That Changes with Light

For this project, Porsche has developed two new Chromaflair colors: Terra Australis Red and Southern Cross Blue. These hues are applied through a meticulous seven-layer manual process, resulting in a surface that shifts in color depending on the light and angle, showcasing shades from red-orange to blue, with hints of green and gold.

The painting process required over 300 hours of labor, and a special effect on the roof reveals the number 75, a nod to the anniversary being celebrated by this unique vehicle.

A Hidden Surprise

One of the most intriguing details is not immediately visible and is cleverly concealed beneath the retractable rear wing. When the spoiler lifts, it reveals the phrase “See ya later mate,” a charming reference to Australian culture. This feature becomes visible when the Sport Plus mode is selected or when the wing automatically engages at speeds over 80 km/h. Such details transform this customization into a captivating narrative.

The Australian theme continues within the cabin, where Porsche has utilized specially developed materials and craftsmanship for this one-off model. The adaptive seats, featuring 18 adjustments, showcase a unique pattern created from 14,417 perforations, inspired by the brush strokes of Australian artist Werner Bronkhorst. The interior is complemented by Dark Night Blue leather, Coolibah Brown accents, and Australian silky oak wood inserts. Perhaps the most original touch is the headliner, which replicates the starry sky over Uluru in 1951, the year Porsche began its commercial journey in Australia.

The 911 Turbo S Land Down Under has been developed in collaboration with Sonderwunsch, Style Porsche, and artist Werner Bronkhorst. Following its unveiling, the car will embark on a celebratory tour across various locations in Australia. While it’s unlikely to be available for sale, after the tour concludes, this one-off model is expected to join Porsche's heritage collection.
