The Future of Performance: AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ Takes Center Stage
Mercedes extends A-Class production until 2027, while the AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ leads the charge into the electric future, featuring impressive specs and a nod to its combustion roots.

Mercedes-Benz has made significant strides in its luxury segment, showcasing high-performance brands such as AMG, Maybach, and the iconic G-Class. Despite the evolution of these top-tier models, the company recognizes the necessity of maintaining a connection with the broader market to ensure profitability and visibility in software, hardware, and distribution.
The current A-Class has been deemed unnecessary by executives in Stuttgart, sparking confusion among dealers who sought an extension of its production. A robust entry-level model is crucial for maintaining momentum, even for a premium brand.
In response to dealer concerns, Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius announced an extension of the A-Class production until 2027. Whether this decision signifies a return to fundamentals or a failed high-price strategy remains to be seen. However, rumors are circulating about a new crossover version of the A-Class based on the MMA platform.

As the automotive landscape shifts, the Final Edition of the AMG A 45 S hints at the impending end of the combustion engine era. This model boasts the title of the world's most powerful four-cylinder engine, delivering 421 horsepower from just two liters of displacement. For inquiries regarding its durability and risks, customers are advised to consult their Mercedes dealer.
Strategically, the engineers at Affalterbach plan to phase out gasoline engines in the compact class, a decision that could come at a premium for enthusiasts. With an additional cost of €6,000, the price tag for the entry-level AMG reaches approximately €80,000.
Electric Performance with AMG Flair
In parallel, the electric CLA has been introduced under the AMG banner, maintaining the 45 4MATIC+ designation without any internal combustion engine. Characteristic of electric vehicles, this model boasts impressive specifications, including a 94 kWh battery and a charging capacity of up to 330 kW, with a peak output of 680 horsepower.

More notably, the vehicle delivers a continuous power output exceeding 600 horsepower through three axial flux motors—two at the rear and one at the front. This heavy sedan, weighing in at 2.3 tons, can accelerate to triple-digit speeds in just three seconds, offering a distraction from the loss of the combustion engine.
To cater to enthusiasts, AMG has synthesized the sound of its combustion predecessor and integrated it into the electric model. Additionally, the vehicle features a tachometer that mimics a range of 0 to 7,000 RPM, along with the capability to simulate eight virtual gears using paddles on the steering wheel. Configuration options are set to be available by the end of August, including for the Shooting Brake variant. Pricing for this electric model is expected to surpass that of its combustion counterpart.
