The Toyota Hilux has long stood as a symbol in the world of 4x4 vehicles, and its latest iteration continues to uphold that legacy. Since its debut in 1968, the Hilux has sold over 27 million units globally, and the 2026 model marks the arrival of its eighth generation. Its full LED headlights and a modern bumper design rival that of the RAV4, making it appear more like a modern 4x4 than a traditional pickup.

Interior Comfort and Features

Inside, the Hilux draws inspiration from the Land Cruiser, offering an interior that feels akin to a modern SUV. While Toyota has opted for a more utilitarian approach with hard plastics on the dashboard and door panels, the overall design is functional. A large 12-inch touchscreen provides connectivity and entertainment, while a multi-camera system enhances visibility, especially when maneuvering in tight spots. Physical controls for various functions maintain ease of use, making the Hilux feel more like a family SUV than a work vehicle. The double cab version surprises with its comfort, especially given its substantial dimensions of 5.23 meters in length and a wheelbase of 3.08 meters. For added convenience, the Hilux features a multi-terrain dial with five driving modes (snow, mud, sand, etc.), along with options for two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive with high or low ratios, and a locking differential.

During testing, the vehicle performed exceptionally well, even on rocky paths where punctures seemed likely. The Hilux proved to be a top-tier off-road vehicle, making rough terrains more accessible for less experienced drivers. Pricing and Availability

The Hilux is equipped with an automatic descent control system, easing the challenges of downhill driving. Its suspension system provides a comfortable ride over rough terrain, allowing drivers to tackle difficult obstacles with ease. With a ground clearance of 309 mm and approach and departure angles of 24 and 29 degrees respectively, the Hilux can handle water crossings of up to 70 cm.

Toyota's eighth-generation Hilux is designed to meet the needs of both professionals and off-road enthusiasts, simplifying the off-road experience. The vehicle will be available exclusively in a double cab configuration, with prices ranging from €55,900 to €66,900 for the top-tier Invincible version. An electric model starts at €69,000, with deliveries expected to commence in the last quarter of the year.
