Walkenhorst Motorsport experienced a rewarding weekend during the second round of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup, held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The team from Melle achieved two second-place finishes in the competitive Silver Cup category, reinforcing their strong standings in the championship.
In the initial qualifying session, Jamie Day emerged as the leading Aston Martin driver, securing the twelfth overall position, which translated to a second-place start in the Silver Cup. Following a chaotic race start, Day managed to maintain his position and laid the groundwork for a solid performance. His teammate, Mateo Villagomez, brought the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 to the finish line as the overall 14th, ensuring a second-place finish in the Silver Cup classification for the duo. Additionally, Gaspard Simon and Maxime Robin contributed to the team's success by finishing seventh in their category, earning valuable championship points.
The competitive spirit continued in the qualifying for the second race, where Mateo Villagomez qualified the Aston Martin, number 34, in third place in the Silver Cup. Together with Jamie Day, he executed a flawless race, once again securing a second-place finish in their class. Simon and Robin also showcased their skills, narrowly missing out on fourth place in the Silver Cup after a close contest.
After four Sprint Cup races, Jamie Day and Mateo Villagomez have climbed to third in the Silver Cup drivers' standings, thanks to their three podium finishes. Meanwhile, Gaspard Simon and Maxime Robin hold the sixth position in the championship. In the team standings for the Silver Cup, Walkenhorst Motorsport currently sits in second place.
Team principal Henry Walkenhorst expressed satisfaction with the weekend's results: "We are very pleased with our time in Misano. Jamie and Mateo managed to secure second place in both races of the Silver Cup. With three podium finishes after the first four races of the season, it marks a strong start to the campaign. Gaspard and Maxime also performed flawlessly in both races, gathering essential points. We will continue to work hard and look forward to the next races in Magny-Cours in two weeks."
The season resumes from July 31 to August 2, 2026, in Magny-Cours, where Gaspard Simon and Maxime Robin will compete in their home race. A highlight of the event will be the Saturday race, which, similar to Misano, will take place under the cover of darkness, promising a unique atmosphere for the competitors and fans alike.
