Audi A2 e-tron: A Historic Name Returns with Electric Ambitions
Audi is set to unveil the A2 e-tron, a new electric compact car, aiming to be the most fuel-efficient vehicle ever launched by the brand. The official reveal is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show.

More than twenty years after the original A2 was discontinued, Audi is set to unveil a new electric compact car bearing the same name this autumn. Dubbed the A2 e-tron, this model aims to become the most fuel-efficient vehicle ever launched by Audi. The official debut is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show, followed by production at the Ingolstadt plant. Beyond its historical nod, the A2 e-tron focuses on energy efficiency to stand out in an increasingly competitive electric compact market.
A Compact Redefining the A2 Spirit with Modern Standards
Measuring 4.32 meters in length, 1.79 meters in width, and 1.55 meters in height, the new Audi A2 e-tron fits comfortably into the compact category. With a trunk capacity of 396 liters, it maintains practicality, and its design emphasizes a relatively high roofline to enhance interior space. This model is built on the latest evolution of the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, which is also utilized by the latest versions of the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born.

While the design is distinctly modern, Audi has not overlooked the legacy of the original A2. The new model features a monocoque silhouette and a roofline that extends to a small rear spoiler, directly reminiscent of the late 1990s version. Adopting this silhouette was relatively straightforward for Audi, as the monocoque shape was already present in the Cupra Born and Volkswagen ID.3 Neo. At the front, the lighting signature includes particularly slim daytime running lights with sixteen LED elements on each side, while the rear lights maintain a clean design without a transverse light strip.

Prioritizing Efficiency Over Battery Size
Audi emphasizes the aerodynamic advancements made in the new compact. With a drag coefficient of just 0.24, the A2 e-tron ranks among the leaders in its class. Engineers have implemented numerous optimizations, including active air intakes, a fully covered underbody, specific wheels to reduce turbulence, flush door handles, and features designed to channel airflow around the wheels. This focus on aerodynamics enhances the A2 e-tron's performance compared to its counterparts, the Cupra Born and Volkswagen ID.3 Neo. However, unlike the original Audi A2, this model does not feature an aluminum body.

This pursuit of efficiency results in a consumption rate of only 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, according to the WLTP cycle. By avoiding the trend of increasingly larger batteries, Audi not only benefits the environment but also offers cost advantages for customers both at purchase and during use. In its most favorable configuration, equipped with an 84 kWh battery, the range can reach up to 649 kilometers, as stated by the manufacturer.

The A2 e-tron will be available with three battery capacities: 52, 62, and 84 kWh. Rapid charging capabilities will allow the battery to go from 10% to 80% in about 24 minutes. The compact will also support bidirectional charging functions, enabling it to power electrical devices or even a home.

At launch, four power levels will be offered, ranging from 170 to 326 horsepower. The first three versions will feature an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, while the most powerful variant will complete the lineup. The official presentation is expected at the Paris Motor Show in October, with a starting price anticipated to be around 38,000 euros.
